Pretty in Pink: Himalayan Pink Salt Sole Water

What is Sole Water?

Sole (so-lay) is made from Himalayan pink salt and pure water. It is a 26% salt solution that captures the 84 minerals and trace elements of Pink Himalayan salt.

Sole water is made using the sole solution for the purpose of supporting proper nutrition and overall health.

Sole water is rich in minerals and electrolytes not found in drinking water such as zinc, copper, iodine, magnesium, and even calcium.

It’s reported to have been used for centuries as an aid for overall health including: better digestion, balancing pH & detox; increased energy; healthier hair, skin, & nails; and preserving minerals typically flushed from our bodies when drinking lots of water each day.

One study was repeatedly cited when researching results on the benefits of sole water. The study investigated the effects of Himalayan Crystal Salt on physical and psychological functions of the body. It was the only double-blind study on sole and was completed at The Inter-University of Graz, Austria. The results were presented in a book titled Water & Salt – The Essence of Life, authored by Dr. Barbara Hendel, M.D. and a biophysicist, Peter Ferreira.

How to Make Sole?

You can find many videos and articles on ways to make sole, but I find sole kits are the easiest way to get started.

I bought this sole kit locally at Fleauxt in Baton Rouge for $16.

It’s perfect in that it uses authentic Himalayan salt chunks from Pakistan, and has a cork lid with an attached wooden 1/2 teaspoon. It is also refillable and reusable.

Simply add the included salt chucks to the jar, fill with water, and let sit for a full 24 hours. This is the time needed for the water to reach maximum saturation of 26%. After 24 hours…you have sole!!

You can find the individual elements separately. I have seen the 5 oz cork top glass jars with wooden a spoon at craft stores.

Salt chunks can be found at healthier food markets in the spice aisle and at premium salt retailers such as So Well. So Well is my favorite online retailer for Himalayan salt products; they also carry a starter kit and refills.

How to Use Sole Water?

Mix 1/2 teaspoon of sole with a glass of 8 ounces of pure, filtered water. Drink it on an empty stomach, preferably first thing in the morning.

Some articles I reviewed indicate 1 teaspoon per glass of water in the morning and also drinking at bedtime. I chose to follow the directions on the this kit and have been pleased so far.

Avoid Metal Kitchenware

It is important to avoid the use of metal lids, cups, and spoons with sole, as metal deionizes the salt solution. Opt for glass jars but avoid metal lids found on Ball & Mason canning jars.

Wooden spoons like the one in this kit are ideal. Use a plastic spoon if no other options.

Daily Sodium Intake

The FDA Dietary Guidelines suggests no more than 2,300 mg of sodium per day, roughly 1 teaspoon of table salt, for America adults.

One teaspoon of pink Himalayan salt contains about 1,700 mg of sodium.

As sole water is highly diluted, it contains significantly less sodium than raw pink Himalayan salt used to make it.

If you have concerns about sodium intake, discuss this with your healthcare provider before using sole water.
